Welcome to Hardage! We are looking for a talented Junior Web Designer/Production Assistant to join our team. In this part-time role, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and gain valuable experience in the web design industry. Headquarters

Our headquarters are located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. However, this position is remote, so you will have the flexibility to work from anywhere as long as you have a stable internet connection.

Core Responsibilities

As a Junior Web Designer/Production Assistant, your core responsibilities will include:

Designing web pages: You will have the opportunity to create visually appealing and user-friendly web pages for our clients. This will involve understanding their requirements and translating them into high-quality designs.
Preparing design files in Photoshop for development: After completing the design phase, you will prepare the design files in Photoshop, ensuring that they are well-organized and ready for the development team to code.
Creating supplemental design assets: In addition to web pages, you will also create supplemental design assets such as social sharing images and style guides. These assets will contribute to the overall branding and user experience of our clients' websites.

Day-to-Day Activities

In your role as a Junior Web Designer/Production Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of exciting projects. Here are a few examples of the day-to-day activities you can expect:

Redesigning information pages: You will collaborate with our Senior Designer to create mockups for four information pages of a Shopify site for an existing client. This will involve reviewing client feedback and incorporating it into the design to ensure client satisfaction.
Designing landing pages: You will be tasked with creating initial mockups for a sales/landing page. This project allows for more creative freedom, as it does not need to fit within the existing design of the website. You will work closely with the client, taking their notes and examples into consideration.
Blog design: Collaboration with our Senior Designer will be key in this project, as you will work together to create initial mockups for a blog redesign. This will involve understanding the client's vision and translating it into a visually appealing design.
Designing supplemental pages and assets: For an ongoing Shopify project, you will be responsible for designing supporting pages such as the login, search, and error pages. Additionally, you will create assets such as social sharing images and style guides to enhance the overall user experience.
File preparation: As part of your role, you will clean up Photoshop files, grouping and labeling layers, to ensure they are ready for the development team to code. This will contribute to a smooth transition from design to development.

Who You Report To

In this position, you will report to our Senior Designer and Developer, who are co-owners of the company. However, your primary point of contact and collaboration will be with our Senior Designer. They will provide guidance, feedback, and support throughout your time with us.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, there are a few requirements that we are looking for in candidates. These include:

1-2 years of web design experience: We are seeking candidates who have some prior experience in web design. This could include working on personal projects, freelance work, or internships.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite: Proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator is essential for this role. Ideally, you would also have experience with InDesign, although this is not a strict requirement.

Soft Skills

In addition to the technical requirements, we value candidates with strong soft skills. The following soft skills will be essential for your success in this role:

Communication skills: Given the remote nature of our work, clear and kind communication is critical. You will be collaborating with team members and clients remotely, often asynchronously, and across different platforms. Therefore, effective communication is key to ensuring a smooth workflow.
Organization: Working on multiple projects simultaneously can be challenging, so strong organizational skills are important. You will need to keep track of files, feedback, and schedules to ensure that everything is running smoothly.
Web-specific design: While coding is not a requirement for this role, understanding how your designs will be implemented is crucial. Being able to explain the functionality of elements such as buttons or menus will enable effective collaboration with the development team.

Compensation

We offer a starting pay rate of $25 per hour for this position. Additionally, there will be a pay review after 90 days to ensure that your compensation reflects your contributions and growth within the company.
