Working with a GOTS-based ETL system

As an ETL Engineer at AnaVation, you will have the opportunity to work with a GOTS-based (Government Off-The-Shelf) Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) system. This system is responsible for loading vast amounts of information into a Postgres database with billions of rows. You will gain first-hand experience working with a system that deals with a file repository in the Petabyte range, demonstrating your ability to handle large-scale data processing.

Dealing with a file repository in the Petabyte range

One of the key challenges you will face as an ETL Engineer is dealing with a file repository that is in the Petabyte range. This requires you to have a deep understanding of data ingestion, processing, and storage techniques. You will apply your expertise in handling large volumes of data to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the ETL system.

Involvement in engineering planning and transition to a Cloud-based solution

As an ETL Engineer at AnaVation, you will be highly involved in the engineering planning and transition of the existing ETL system software and data into a Cloud-based solution. Currently, the Cloud-based solution is implemented using Amazon Web Services (AWS). You will have the opportunity to utilize your experience working with AWS and contribute to the migration of the system, making it more scalable, efficient, and cost-effective.

Required Qualifications

To excel in the role of an ETL Engineer at AnaVation, the following qualifications are required:

6 or more years of ETL experience: You should have a strong background in extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes. Your experience should include handling large volumes of data and working with complex ETL systems.
Experience working with AWS: Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS) is essential as the ETL system is transitioning to a Cloud-based solution. You should be comfortable working with various AWS services such as S3, EC2, Lambda, and SNS.
Experience with SQL: Proficiency in SQL is necessary to effectively query and manipulate data within the Postgres database. Your understanding of SQL will enable you to optimize data retrieval and perform complex data transformations.
Experience with software development and scripting for data ingest: As an ETL Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining software scripts for data ingestion. You should have experience in software development and scripting languages to automate the data ingestion process.
Experience with Java or Python: Fluency in either Java or Python programming languages is preferred. Your experience in these languages will allow you to implement efficient data processing algorithms and optimize the performance of the ETL system.
Experience with web services and/or microservices: Familiarity with web services and microservices architecture is beneficial. Your understanding of these concepts will enable you to integrate the ETL system with other services and systems in a distributed environment.
Experience with Linux and Windows environments: Proficiency in both Linux (CentOS/RedHat) and Windows environments is necessary. You will be working with a hybrid system, and your ability to navigate and troubleshoot issues in both environments is crucial.
Excellent communication skills: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders. You should be able to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical individuals in a clear and concise manner.
Active Top Secret Security Clearance: Due to the nature of the work and interaction with classified information, an active Top Secret security clearance is required. Additionally, the ability to obtain an SCI clearance with a polygraph is necessary.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline: A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline provides a solid foundation for understanding and applying complex technical concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

Experience working within agile methodology: Familiarity with agile methodology, such as Scrum or Kanban, is valuable. This experience will enable you to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative development environment.
Experience using software repository tools (GIT or SVN): Proficiency in using software repository tools such as GIT or SVN is beneficial. Your experience with version control systems will enhance your ability to manage and version software code effectively.
